Deer hunters will look elsewhere

Eastern Bay hunters appear to have accepted they cannot shoot deer in Te Urewera. The Te Urewera revoked hunting permits issued by the Department of Conservation for the former national park this month pending a review of the system.

Have to say I'm disapointed as I had planned a November hunt. I can understand OHS issues and see some benifits in limiting areas to 1 party at a time etc but this could have been done while the existing system stayed in place. How is this impacting on those how rely on hunting pig and deer for large portions of their proten supply.
