Background
Te Komiti o Runga (TKOR) Tribal Authority, formerly known as the Western Tūhoe Tribal Executive Committee, has been active since the early 1950’s. It is one of four Tribal Authorities within Te Rohe Pōtae o Tūhoe and encompasses the communities of Tāneatua, Rūātoki and Waiōhau.
TKOR is represented by 12 hapū from this rohe and each hapū has two representatives to the Tribal.
The function of the Tribal is to ensure that the interests of all hapū are protected and developed.
The Tribal meet monthly to discuss, debate, plan and resolve local issues. It is a unique and powerful hapū political collective which operates on Tūhoe tikanga and kotahitanga and also contributes strategically to iwi planning and decision making.
The Tribal derives its mana and direction from its hapū.
