A Ngai Tuhoe leader is looking into other ways his people might communicate with each other as a result of new spying laws.

The Government Communications Security Bureau bill passed its third and final reading on Wednesday night.

It allows the bureau to carry out surveillance on New Zealand citizens.

Ngai Tuhoe leader Tamati Kruger says tribal members will have to be cautious in the way they interact with one another.

Mr Kruger says his people will need to make sure that what they say cannot be misinterpreted.

A Ngai Tuhoe leader is looking into other ways his people might communicate with each other as a result of new spying laws.
