Tuhoe open third tribal building

Tūhoe has opened a new building at Ruatahuna and is now looking to develop two housing projects in the village. The building, officially opened last weekend, includes at 24-hour fuel stop, and laundry as well as tribal offices. Tamati Kruger, who chairs the Tūhoe post settlement organisation, Te Uru Taumatua, said the building cost $12 million and the aim was to reinvigorate Ruatahuna. Read more

It was really exciting to drive out of the bush into the new Ruatahuna buildings, and to meet the people so happy with their shiny new shop and offices. I did notice that some of the new plantings of tussocks had been pulled out, I guess by the wandering horses or pigs.. and hope that they will be replanted quickly before they die.
