6.8kms In Ōhiwa
Tūhoe through the Fisheries Charitable Trust has accepted Te Ohu Kaimoana allocation of 6.8 kilometres to Tūhoe. On the 20 July 2009 representatives of Tūhoe Fisheries Charitable Trust and Te Kotahi ā Tūhoe met with representatives of Te Rūnanga ō Ngāti Awa, Whakatōhea Māori Trust Board and Te Ohu Kaimoana met at Whakatāne to confirm the coastline allocation and location for the purpose initially of receiving grants believed to be around $2,500 per kilometre.
A formal legal document to be prepared by Te Ohu Kai Moana and endorsed by the 3 Iwi will confirm the location of the Tūhoe coastline as starting from the middle of the Ōhiwa Harbour mouth at is most western point and extends 6.8kms eastward ending just beyond the Waiōtahe River mouth. The Tūhoe Fisheries Charitable Trust, Tūhoe Waikaremoana Māori Trust Board and Te Kotahi ā Tūhoe will come to an arrangement about the management of monies due from Te Ohu Kaimoana for Tūhoe.
