The needs of Tūhoe whānau remains a area of concern for the Iwi and Tūhoe communities. The combined efforts of Tūhoe people and communities moved quickly to prioritise water, food, clothing, warmth and above all safety. Some travelled from the rohe with messages of that heartfelt concern and care for Tūhoe and all whanau effected by the quakes.
The last significant earthquakes on the 13th June initiated a repeat visit to Ōtautahi. These earthquakes have caused renewed damage and upset for whānau who are showing serious signs of psychological stress. A major concern is the affects the earthquakes are having on our tamariki.
To initiate directed support and assistance the Tūhoe Charitable Trust resourced a workplan and coordinator
Leonard Amai for a short 8 week period to verify the state of Tūhoe people and to test support services so that these could be recommended to whānau. The workpan requires evaluative research of the various services; to undertake assessments and make referrals; contribute to the collaboration of services and agencies and coordinate one on one and group responses to areas of need.
If you have whānau you are worried about in Ōtautahi, please give Leonard a call to see how he can help you 021 402 152.
