Onukurangi – The Land (The Office for Tūhoe Natural Resources)
Foreword
Ngāi Tūhoe rohe and people are in many ways raw and full of potential. Our rugged valleys, lush farm land and native forest provide beautiful scenery, as well as the opportunity for growth and prosperity. Such development requires good strategy, well crafted implementation plans and a significant investment in the development of Tūhoe capability and capacity.
Developing plans and capability to manage Te Urewera and other iwi controlled natural resources is a priority for the new authority. Coupled with Tūhoe Crown settlement prospects, on the ground organisational structural capability and leadership is required to position the iwi to manage a less troubled transition of assets programme to Tūhoe. This department must take a Tūhoe tikanga approach to governing, growing and managing environmental and bio-diversity taonga.
This office will be concerned with;
- Environmental planning
- Resource Land Governance & Management
- Tribal Community Infrastructure Planning
The TET establishment phase allowed the planning and development of the required Tūhoe infrastructure, to ensure Tūhoe prosperity is developed. From Tūhoe feedback some immediate and short term priorities have been established and reflected in the proposed New Tūhoe Authority Organisational structure.
